Andrea started The Fit Brain because she saw the connection between health & fitness and education. She knew her experience could benefit others. As a teacher for the past 17 years, Andrea has taught children from the age of 3 through age 12. She was a pre-school teacher while in college to earn her B.A. in Education. She taught in sunny Tampa, Florida for almost 6 years and moved back to Philadelphia to earn her M.A. in Teaching and Learning with a focus on S.T.E.M. education. She is currently a Level II certified teacher with the School District of Philadelphia.
During that time, she made some life changes and in 2010 she decided that she wanted to lose the weight she'd put on throughout the years. She lost over 100 pounds through good nutrition and fitness. She eventually found her way back to the pool after being a competitive swimmer through high school. She was given the opportunity to begin teaching swimming lessons again and she currently trains kids and adults of all abilities.
Andrea now enjoys training and competing in Sprint and Olympic Triathlons. She competed in her first Ironman 70.3 in September, 2018. She also runs in road races from 5K's to half marathons. She compliments endurance training with cross training and strength workouts, as well.
With anything in life, health and fitness, is hard work and a lifestyle that requires commitment. However, it never needs to be done alone and it is better to have the support of someone who understands the challenges that goes along with the struggle of balancing a healthy lifestyle.
Andrea lives in South Philadelphia with her partner, Kay, and two lazy pugs, Bella & Luna.
